Identification Plates, Inc. is a wholesale distributor and provides sheet metal, stock and custom blanks, and imprinting services, which include: chemical etching, screen printing, and sublimation to the awards, promotional products, product identification and signage industries.

Brass is the most popular metal in our industry for engraving. Not only is it the easiest and most versatile to work with, but it is also regarded as the most attractive metal to engrave due to the "gold" quality of the engraving. All brass can be conventionally engraved. Laser engraving, however, is generally restricted to opaque coated products. Sublimation can be achieved using products with clear lacquer such as the bright and satin gold or yellow finishes.

Premium and Economy Brass

Satin and bright finishes are 85% copper, 15% zinc and are gold in finish with a clear lacquer coating that is suitable for sublimation. Gloss and flat colors are painted over a mill finish 70% copper, 30% zinc blend that is yellow in finish and mainly designed for diamond drag or rotary engraving. When oxidized, the engraved areas will turn black. This material is not suitable for outdoor use.

This material is generally used when deep routing and color filling is required. Leaded brass is more yellow in color than premium or economy brass and available in thicker gauges. When oxidized, the engraved areas will turn black. This material is not suitable for outdoor use.
