Nickel silver is actually a copper alloy even though it is silver in color. The alloy of nickel silver typically used in our industry is 770 and has a 1/4 hard temper. The recipe for making nickel silver is approx 55% copper, 27% zinc and 18% nickel. The addition of zinc & nickel give the final product the silver color & makes it very hard. Because this is still a copper based metal it can be engraved & will oxidize black. This material is not recommended for outdoor use.
