Plated Steel

We offer both stainless and an economical plated steel.  Plated steel is more commonly used for our laserable materials and generally has a plating over a low grade steel.  This offers an economical alternative to solid brass.  However, the core steel in this product is more susceptible to rust and corrosion than stainless steel.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is a strong, durable metal used mainly for commercial applications.  It does not corrode as easy as ordinary steel (but keep in mind, it is stain-less not stain-proof).  It has the ability to maintain the same surface color and structure, even after years of use and exposure to elements.  All stainless steel products are compatible with laser marking solutions. Thicknesses range from .015” to .062” and standard sheet sizes are 12” x 24” and 24” x 48”.

Type 304 – The most versatile and widely-used stainless steel, it has excellent corrosion resistance in a wide variety of environments.  304 is non-magnetic and accounts for more than half of the stainless steel produced in the world.

Type 316 – It is more resistant than Type 304 to atmospheric and corrosive environments. 316 stainless steel is non-magnetic and usually regarded as the standard marine / coastal grade stainless steel.

Type 430 – A softer, more economical steel, it has excellent resistance to nitric attack, which makes it well suited for use in chemical applications.  430 is magnetic and most commonly used for decorative applications such as name badges, wallet cards, commercial plates and signage.
